This is Marblehead, MA. The big rock there over the ocean. It has a name. But I don't know it.
Despite a flight home where the attendants were instructed to "take their jump seats" after the cheery proclamation from the pilot that we were going to be "battling 160 miles per hour winds while heading South, so buckle up tight!", we did make it home in one piece. Ethan sobbed on the way home, WANNA GO BACK TO UNCLE C'S AND AUNT B'S! Meanwhile, I sobbed because the plane had just dipped at a 45-degree angle somewhere over New York and they had stopped passing out pretzels.
Air travel fun aside, it was lovely to see Northern family and I was pleased that they put up with me for multiple days in a row. I am a terrible, awful house guest. I take showers that use all the hot water, I have to have four cups of coffee in the morning before I am vaguely ready to even make eye contact with another human being, I will drink three cosmos in a row and then demand to play Uno, I require the thermostat set at 87.279 degrees, I am a germaphone of the Nth degree, I leave my shoes all over the house and then yell at people for moving them. I make up for it with my charm and wit. Or so I tell myself.
Now that we are home and unpacked, I've had a hard time finding that holiday spirit. The tree is still in the box, lights are still in the basement, and presents have yet to be purchased. We have put together Ethan's Christmas list, which to my dismay, makes no mention of a pony, but does prominently feature (items one through ten), an electric scooter. I've told him that Santa thinks he'll shoot his eye out, so maybe put some other options on the list this year, just in case, because those glass eyes are expensive, especially the light blue ones.
On a related note: "DRECK THE HWALLS WITH BROWS OF FROWRY! FA RA RA RA RA, RA RA RA RA!" Well, that certainly helped. A little more spirited now. Just a bit. Thanks, Ralphie.

I remember a comment about a pony before - just treat yourself -that'll put you in the Christmas spirit!
I remember the comment because it put me in mind of a friend who re-visited South Africa and driving down a kinda main road in front of them was a small 4x4 with a dog doing it's darndest to exit the slowly moving vehicle by the rear side window.
On overtaking the 4x4 my friend realised that the dog was trying to get away from the small pony that was also occupying the back seat!
Do you have a 4x4? ;D
How about a Ponee?
Hope the spirit picks up soon...how can it not with snow being forecast next week???
Umm, by the way, that sounds like some flight!
xoxoxo
Ah go for the pony!! And I'm certain you are a much more wonderful house guest than you give yourself credit for. I'm with you on the Christmas spirit.. I jsut feel the true meaning of Christmas is reciding into the background.Xo HHL
Oh my gosh, I need you to be a house guest at my house because we are the SAME. I'll get drunk and demand uno WITH you followed by a silent morning of no eye contact until we bottom out the coffee pot. And all the french vanilla creamer for moi.
:)
Welcome home, it's okay to wait until Dec 3 to feel holiday-ey.
I bet you make a better house guest than a pony does.
My daughter is currently googling "ways to make it snow." She's got her PJs on backwards, she's put a white crayon in the freezer, and she's flushed ice cubes down the toilet. At least someone in our house is feeling the spirit.
Holidays in my house start by splitting a bottle of champagne with my mom. Nothing like being totally smashed before Christmas presents are even opened. It's a tradition I highly recommend.
Oh, and it...it was...soap...poisoning!
You sound like me! At least as far as the hot water, coffee, cosmos, and temperature go. :) Sounds like you had a lot of fun. It's always rough coming back from a vacation. I'm always in depressed mode for a little while. I'm actually just getting into the Christmas spirit now myself, even though we put our tree up the Friday after Thanksgiving.
Try downloading some new Christmas tunes. That's what helped me. I love Sugarland and was thrilled to see they have a Christmas album out!
It also helps that my husband is teasing me about how amazing my Christmas present is, and that I found him the perfect gift.
Although when I think of how many other people we have to buy for, it scares me. We haven't done any shopping at all.
*sigh*
Sorry to hear about your challenging flight. Lovely photos.
You were so close! I could have sent you home with a pony!
And that's my favorite holiday song!
